Carmen Sylvester began her career as a Registered Nurse in Romania until she escaped during a trip to Israel in 1981.  She arrived in New York City in 1983.

Her training consisted of Operating Room, Floor Head Nurse, and Hospital Head Nurse.  In New York she worked in various practices:  General and Colorectal Surgery, Ophthalmology, Plastic and Reconstructive Hand Surgery, and Internal Medicine.  She also has practical experience in the areas of Trauma, Vascular Medicine, Genitourinary, Orthopedic and Neurosurgery, as well as Kidney and Liver Transplant Surgery, Dialysis, and Endoscopy.  She has worked in walk-in clinics and home health situations as well.

Carmen furthered her education and became a Nurse Practitioner after earning a Master's Degree from Florida International University in Miami, in 1999.  Her clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner includes Gastroenterology, Primary and Family Health, and Pulmonology.  She continues recertification every five years.

In addition to the above, Carmen served as Clinical Instructor for ARNP students at Stony Brook School of Nursing, SUNY.  She was published in 1999, on the subject of Levels of Hardiness, Health Perception and Adaptation in People with Mild or Moderate Primary (Systemic) Hypertension.  She is fluent in English and Romanian and speaks some French, and very little Hebrew.
